6 Keys to Jobs That Matter

by
Robert Houghton

Meaningful work is elusive.  At our last assignment, Redemtech, a surprising number of people were passionate about their jobs—but not everyone.  Now that we’re working to launch a new business, we want to crack the code for creating a company where virtually everyone is truly happy in their work.

We have six big, deceptively simple ideas:

We share a mission. Everyone gets to participate in changing the world, which we’re going to do by promoting greater reuse of used electronics.  (check out the Sage video)

There is integrity. We expect everyone to keep their promises and do what’s right, at every level, all the time.

There is personal accountability. This is the hard one.  Everyone is personally responsible for results—no looking the other way, no excuses, no blaming others.

There is universal respect. Everybody counts. Every job must be critical to the mission.

There is freedom. From all of the above comes trust, and the professional freedom to accomplish great things.

There is a desire to grow. Professional growth is a part of everyone’s job description.

We won’t be writing a fifty page employee manual describing Sage corporate policies and procedures, but we have created the Sage Credo—Our Code for Good Work, that will guide the actions of every Sage associate.  We believe that winning the hearts and minds of our colleagues is the first step to winning the hearts and minds of our customers.

We’re currently recruiting for the jobs listed on our careers page, www.sagese.com/careers
