New Sage Benchmarking Report Reveals How Enterprises are Managing IT Asset Security, Device Lifecycles, and Budgets

Sage IT Asset Management Benchmarking Report 2026

Sage Sustainable Electronics (Sage) announced the release of its 12th Annual IT Asset Management Benchmarking Report, now published under the Sage brand following the company's acquisition of Cascade Asset Management. The report provides a data-driven view of how organizations are refining their IT asset management (ITAM) and IT asset disposition (ITAD) strategies in response to evolving technology, economic pressure, and compliance demands.

Based on survey responses from 56 organization representing more than 808,000 employees and analysis of over 2.5 million IT assets processed between 2019 and 2025, the report delivers practical benchmarks for IT, procurement, compliance, and sustainability leaders.

Sage IT Asset Management Benchmarking Report 2026

Key Highlights

  • Data security remains the dominant concern in IT asset disposition, with increasing adoption of NIST 800-88 as the preferred sanitization standard. In 2025, 52% reported compliance with this standard, up from 34% last year.
  • Laptop refresh cycles shortened this year from 4.3 to 4.0 years, driven by the Windows 10 end-of-support timeline, anticipated tariff increases, and adoption of AI-capable devices.
  • Server resale values surged in 2025, fueled by a constrained supply of enterprise components and AI-driven demand. Current values are nearly 2.5 times their seven-year average.
  • ESG priorities are evolving. Fewer organizations ranked sustainability as “very important,” yet they are implementing device lifecycle extension, reuse, and digital equity initiatives as effective business strategies.

“The data reflects a more disciplined approach to IT asset management—one that balances protection, performance, and return,” said Neil Peters-Michaud, President of Sage Sustainable Electronics. “Enterprises are becoming more strategic about how they retire, reuse, and remarket technology, and this report provides the benchmarks to guide those decisions.” He added, “By comparing their programs to peers across industries, IT leaders can identify opportunities to strengthen governance, streamline policies, and capture more value from existing assets.”

Bob Houghton, CEO of Sage Sustainable Electronics, noted, “With the integration of Sage and Cascade, this report offers unmatched visibility into IT asset trends across sectors such as healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, government, and nonprofit. It offers actionable intelligence for organizations seeking smarter, more cost effective and sustainable asset strategies.”

The publication also underscores the growing importance of certifications, secure device unlocking, and transparent reporting as organizations seek to maximize asset recovery while meeting compliance requirements.
